Ex#3: Imagining Palestinian Independence On India's Independence Day

For this exercise, I'd like you reflect upon the meaning of "independence" and being "free". What does it mean for you? How we take it for granted. I'd like you to read about the Israel - Palestinian conflict and come up with a message you'd like to send my friends in Palestine, esp in Gaza. For those of you who don't know - Israel has been bombing Gaza for over a month now, in response to rocket attacks from Hamas. Almost 2000 Gazans have died, most of them children.

It could be a poem, a letter, a painting/drawing, or a poster, even a photograph that expresses your wish for them and your solidarity with their situation.

I'd like you to question every source of anything you read, see or listen to. I'd like you to read both sides of the story before you come to your own conclusion. (Question this exercise and my own bias).

Post whatever you have written, photograph whatever you have painted/drawn or have photographed. We'll talk more in class. These will be sent to my friends in Gaza and the West Bank (Palestine).

Deadline: Sunday 17th Aug 2014 6pm

Remember!
- only your name in "post".
- your name comma gaza in "labels". (eg: Ajay, Gaza)
- Give yourself enough time. It is not merely an exercise that we will be seeing as a group, but will go out to real people in really tough times.

- Ajay
