Srishti Singh

The other day I had gone to Gokuldham the place where I still feel I belong and I went to the temple over there after almost seven years. I didn’t wanted to take pictures of it from inside because I had actually forgotten about clicking pictures. The very temple I had spent most of my Sundays running around and looking in marvel at people chanting, playing hide and seek with my cousins and getting tired and falling off to sleep on the marbel floors. It was funny when I realized now I reach the height to ring the bell of the temple on my own. Everything felt just the same. In this picture sadly so many tall buildings have come up, there is so much of traffic and the once upon a time quite neighborhood had lost its charm. The building far off between the two towers used to be the tallest in Mumbai and now it’s hidden. Stories of it being haunted were all that I heard and believed when I was a kid. Funny as it may be my first boyfriend used to live in the same building I was super scared of. Its always lovely to just sit on this terrace of my friend's building and spend most of the time just talking singing and remembering our school days

In my first house I used to chip of paint and draw in the little boxes with frame of the colorful wall, the most favorite of my creation was that on the mumma and baby earthworm. I still remember my mom used to always look at my drawings with or without me knowing. When she saw the drawing of the earthworms she laughed, she hugged and kissed me and said such nice imagination you have. My mom and I every afternoon during our nap time used to try to find patterns in the chipped of paint and I used to fall asleep dreaming about the patterns. When we left that house I asked my mom can I take the earthworms with me? for few hours I sat and tried to carve it out but I couldn’t manage to get it out. In every house since the time I have moved out of the old place I make sure I draw it again on the first chipped wall I find. This one is drawn in the present house.

This picture taken at a friends house, reminds me of my 2nd house where my dad had bought this small showcase in which we used to keep everything precious to us mostly it used to be small marble or stone ducks, my dad used to call my mom a duck. And where ever he used to find a duck show piece he used to buy it. Sadly the Showcase broke while shifting, and also few of the ducks.

My world may not be as difficult as yours, our monsters may not be the same but I too share the same fears as you do of loosing freedom, of losing life more than mine that of my loved ones and the grief provided by even the thought of it, is shattering. I read about your sufferings, about your pain, I read about the injustice thrown your way and how much ever I try to feel what you do its difficult because I am not there to see it for real.  There is one thing though that is true to its core is that no matter who you are a child or an adult I love you, and if someone’s hate can bring so much pain than imagine with me there are millions with you, loving you, will bring about the change. But friend its not about just others loving you it’s also about yourself as your true friend, don’t lose yourself in the sorrows thrown your way, don’t lose the fight in you to be happy, take charge and believe and not break. You have cried enough now SMILE for your own sake. You are not just somebody in this world you matter to me, you are a part of my world, you are important. Make this rock bottom your firm foundation. Face these temporary sorrows with the knowledge that god loves you that each one today sending you a message loves you.
When we say war , we imagine sorrow, cries of innocent we see brokenness, hopelessness I ask you to make a choice and change this image all you have to do is smile, belive and keep faith, always remember there is nothing more courageous then to have a smile on your face when so many want you to cry, there is never anything in the world only filled with sorrow or only filled with happiness search for solace in between this chaos a baby’s smile the way sun shines just look around and look closer towards the things that will keep you brave, keep your hope alive
I am here my friend always, I am praying for you with all my heart. Remember you are not nothing you matter to me. Now common, smile. J

Tell a story so damn well that it will become an exuberating moment of someone’s life.

Since the time I remember I have loved stories and I have been a person who has been lost in her own imagination, dream world. I still remember waking my grandmother up just so I could hear one more story and dream about it, yea I used to believe the last thing you hear about is what you dream about. I loved hearing stories, the way both my grandmothers used to narrate them always kept me completely enchanted. Over the period of time I have changed as a person, have learned some harsh lessons, have started hiding myself behind the veils of toughness and so on and so forth but I have always, always been curious to hear more stories, life has become extremely hectic and somewhere I feel I have lost who I really was. I am not even going to read as to what I am writing in this post because I don’t want to correct it, I don’t want to change I want to write whatever is coming to my mind. It’s liberating to be able to do that.
The reason I chose the first picture; that is of my childhood is because I still remember that day when I was taken in a studio by my parents to get some of my photographs clicked and in the middle of all the posing and all the changing of clothes I saw this big vase besides which they were going to make me stand and pose and all I wanted was to get inside of it, I don’t quite remember if this what I was thinking but I think I was fascinated by the thought of appearing as if I live inside it and so I got in and waved at my awed audience!!! As I said I never was normal in my thoughts I had a dream world and a weird imagination.
The second picture of the present me, I have chosen because that’s what I was doing at the time, I was reading a book I like reading books but again it really depends upon my mood, people say read books and yes one must but I have these phases where I want to read a particular kind of story because my brain world at that time is like that particular mood, I want to try and fit the books story in to it. Also I chose this picture is  because I feel  it’s  poetic, there is a rhythm and a moment captured so beautifully with the way the light is falling and the white dress, and I really want my life to be a moment captured and witness by at least  a few dear ones. I feel I am in the phase where I m getting nurtured and ready for the big future as they call it. And there is a side of me that this picture has got bang on.

The third picture is of what I wish to be in ten years, and it says it all I want to be a happy and comfortable in my skin and I want to write and I want to tell stories and be independent of my own demons. I want to be free of unnecessary stress, figure out ways to keep my clam but what I don’t want to be is a woman who ties her hair up and becomes extremely stiff. I don’t think that you ever need to became boring for people to believe you are a grown up, you can still dance like an idiot, laugh like you have lost it and be curious all your life there is nothing wrong with it and that’s the kind of person I want to be. Most people I meet do not think the way I do, or understand the things I want to say all I got to learn is to put forth my thoughts without becoming the person people expect me to be.

Someday I want to be able to tell a story so damn well that it will become an exuberating moment of someone’s life
